Seems like this was a common problem with the reed and balsa boats from South America. I wonder if the ancients used different building techniques to seal their craft. I believe these trips were all possible but I have to think that their boats were superior in some way.
Someone please remind me why this is different than the Kon Tiki or the Ra expeditions and therefore why should I care? (with the exception that these guys have a GPS and an EPIRB for rescue)??

really cool vid but the music takes away a lot from the video, also the editing is way too fast for being such a slow video, it makes it rather hard to watch, also just kinda impossible to follow most of the video with how snappy all the shots are

Thor Heyerdahl from the Kon Tiki, tried it once too with a similar boat made of reed. It was the RA expedition in 1972. I still remember it when I was in high school.
