  1. My brother told me a story of his first "Shark Watch" in the Coast Guard. He said they told him if he see's a shark to holler "SHARK – SHARK – SHARK !!!" then shoot the shark. So he did just that when a shark arrived. But then everyone started to hollering and cussing at him immediately as he did such, "Cease fire, cease fire, Colburn, you dumbass, you're supposed to wait to until the men are getting out of the water before you start shooting.", the idea being shooting the shark would release the sharks blood into the water and start a feeding frenzy amongst the rest of the sharks before the swimmers were safely out of harms way.
His funniest story was when the Coast Guard had a multi-agency cook-out on base. He was on the work-crew putting up tents and getting the festivities ready. He said he picked up a water hose that had been sitting in the sun so he knew the water inside was probably pretty warm. He waited at the corner of a tent waiting for his buddy to round the corner for a soaking. He saw the shadow approaching the corner and in anticipation he let loose to perfectly time his shot. Problem was it wasn't his friend coming around the corner, it was a visiting female FBI agent now soaked with scalding hot hose water. I don't know his total punishment, but I do remember it included a 65 day restriction to the ship. I remember because as his little brother I sent him my RC Car ("Turbo Hoppers" had just came out, this was the early 80's) to make is "incarceration" a little less torturous. Oh the good Ole' Day's.

  2. Maybe the navy can spook the sharks away, but the attacks on humans has dramatically increased. This is do to us being in their environment and a lack of food in the oceans and seas of the world.
When a person pees in the water they excrete fatty acids, proteins, and electrolytes. What that does is leave a trail that moves with the oceans the sharks can detect this a mile away.
A sharks bi-lateral line will detect this and move to the prey, humans in this case. The shark will display humping of it's back and a change to attack mode.
I dont recommend doing what they are doing. There will eventually be attacks.
An evolved species with 45 million years plus of evolution, super advanced

  3. Nice to the sailors have fun. They deserve it. I was in the Army and once maybe twice a year we would a battalion sports day. They would grill burgers and t bone steaks. Alcohol was highly prohibited

  4. I have great admiration for the dedication and sacrifice our military service people devote themselves to. It's incredibly important to show them our appreciation. I fully support our tax dollars being spent in such a manner. 🇺🇸

  5. Bullets rarely disintegrate when hitting the water. Even you said they travel farther than 1 foot.
The military are all risk adverse because many have their cell phones out, filming and posting things on social media.
No events and no PR are better than bad PR.
Submarines are also very strict on cell phone filming of social events.

  6. "seasnakes to worry about" no there is not. Sea snakes live ar coral reefs, you are not plowing an aircraft carrier threw shallow water were the coral reefs with sea snakes are! Stop lying for drama.

  7. 4 years of active duty and I spent it all aboard the USS Nassau. During that time, we had only one swim call and that was inside the ships well deck. Steel beach picnics, on the other hand were more often.and something we looked forward to during that period when we spent 63 days straight underway at sea.

  8. I seen a ship commander dive from the flight deck of a LSD class ship in his khaki uniform, but this is the commander who lost his ship because being married was sleeping with the female MO while on the way haha.
