  1. I thought you were in NZ? Did your boat survive Cyclone Gabby? It’s been pretty rough on them and we thinking of our kiwi cousins. It will take some time to adjust and get over the shock.

  2. Guess what…. There's so many different choices that you could have for an engine to propel that boat… Did you know that an electric Minn kota can be purchased with radio control… It can move you slowly around your docks… It could help save somebody's life out there on the Open water… What if that little gal that jumped in the water got into a current and got pulled away from the boat… And you with no backup motor… Could not get over to her.. you know what I'm saying… Possibly the wind is blowing the opposite direction of the current and she gets further and further away very quickly. You know how the surfer tethers himself to the surfboard… That would be a good idea. To tether yourself or her to the boat… To mount the Minn kota… You just need a simple bracket… There are pivoting buoyant brackets kind of let the motor go up and down with the waves… They pivot off the boat somehow.. and the other thing is a long shaft five or 10 horse outboard motor… And when you're not using it you bring it inside where it is out of the weather and safe… Take up a collection… Or create a raffle… And the prize is…..we get to go out in your yacht on a cruise someday…. If we win… And funds from go towards the purchase of a motor for you.. or just find a rich guy and ask him if he'll buy you a motor or sell you a motor that he already has… for cheap…. Or ask him if you can make payments on it. I go salmon fishing off of Westport Washington State USA… We absolutely never ever ever go out in the ocean without a spare motor… Some sail boat owners are extremely rich… They might have long shaft outboard motors and they would sell you one.. or just purchase a brand new one and make payments on it. There's probably a company that makes brackets to mount the motor on your particular boat.

  3. I love how chill you are about serious engine issues. Most would lose their minds but you just stay calm, laugh, and find a solution. I have seen grown men in near tears because their engine would not start at the dock – with no idea how to bleed a diesel….Holly you rock and are a huge inspiration to all of us. Fair winds!

  4. Thank you, Holly. As always you are an inspiration! Seeing your outro on dry land I know you arrived alive.
And William is Spot On as far as your day (and whole family) goes – give them all a hug when you see them next and thank them, for me, for supporting you so well. And for raising such an inspirational adventurer of a daughter.

  5. You know Holly if you can find a junk yard in your travels that's usually the best place to find hoses and other useable products to Obama rig your boat ! Keep the faith and Stay the Coarse !

  6. When tryng to teach girls to go to sea,
I always share you with them with glee.
I've seen many vlogs of fancier yachts,
but never such passion to get an extra point 3 knots.
    From gimbles to gambles
    and exhaust pipes that crack,
    we here all have faith
Holly will make the right tact.
    Who needs an engine?
    Let's see what luck brings.
And as wind fills your sails
    1,000 hearts sing.

  7. Great episode. Watched it twice. Shame the shop didn't have a clue about how exhaust manifolds work. If you had more time you could have put a U-piece on the pipe pointing down as a temporary fix. Loved the fun game of seeing who could tow the boat the fastest! Love Queenstown, amazing views from the top of the ski lift.

  8. Sometimes in the future you should think about putting a mount on the back of your boat for an outboard motor and you can put a outboard motor on your dingy and any time you run into this problem again you can take the motor off of the dingy when you put your dingy on board and put it on your mout on the back of your boat And you can use the motor to keep you motor and along until you get some wind at least that way you don't have to worry about getting pushed ashore you can always use the outboard motor to push you may not go very fast only 2 or 3 nots but at least you'll be moving along instead of floating towards shore

  9. Holly, you know how to repair an engine, but do you know how to repair a broken heart, the one of a french guy living far, but far from you, and beating a little bit too fast each time he contemplates your dirty face (engine oil) and your "merveilleux" smile ?

  10. I use keel cooling and a dry exhaust A little noisier, but better fuel economy and the outlet has to exit through the deck in a screened pipe (prevents burns) such as a tubular dinghy davit or awning Samson post

  11. I found you by chance. And I really loved, how you explained and showed things in the engine room as well as the challenges, inclusive not being able, to bring the engine back to live. I must congrat you, since there are soooooo many Video Bloggers out there, overdoing things in such a way, that nothing is TRUTHFULL but lied, staged and decorated with vsry stupid nudity and false but very dangerous behavior.

  12. no kit, so you would still need to get a Re-Gen controller, contactor, throttle stuff and cables…..if it makes 7kW of power at 24V<– Do That Then..because that is 9.4 HP
you could get 8 pc. GBS 160AH….24V totally safe, no ct required..
that is the Absolute best i can do, price, performance, longevity wise….Ashwoods Axial Flux 7kW at 24V nom. 8 pc, GBS 160 AH ….9.4 HP on 4kWh
Not a Kit motor…so you still need a Re-Gen Controller, contactor, and throttle stuff there….( sore power charger, 24v to 12v converter ) and you can wire a 24v pannel strait to the pack.

  13. 3 Blade Standard Marine Prop on the previously mentioned…just a little more pitch on it.

you won't have the diesel's gear box losses there…. so that's more of the 9.4HP into the water, and a torque curve that matches the prop power curve better….it will feel like way more.
the Only Thing I Am Worried about is the diameter of the motor…..it's probably going to be tight againt the hull and companionway stair on an extension ?
