Congrats on scooting through Orca alley….phew…. Maderia is a good choice…..work on that spinaker next
Glad you made it. We are anchored in Porto Santo, north of Madeira, headed to Brazil, hoping to meet you guys one day.
Hi guys from meaford on.
I have c
Been on utube all day looking for you, worried about your trip
Love you young people & watch your journey every week
Glad you are safe
Cdn. Dave
clickbait no orcas bullshit
Where's the part about the Orcas attacking the rudder, per the title of this vid?
Nico video
If you have an RV star link then check out Calico Skies Sailing most recent issues and attempt at solving
That must have been ultra nerve wracking to go through, glad you guys are safely on your way out of there now! back to the no orca side of the world lol
Hate clickbait. Makes me not watch the vid
Seriously thinking of getting an aeries self steering system. A back up for rudder if God forbid Orcas get us. Hopefully it won’t be an issue for next year travel
Hot water bottle for night watch
So the orca didn't take the rudder then.
My Good Friend studied the Orca whale for 30 years Dr Randal Eaton , he told me that the Orcal whale is one of the most intelligent animals on earth and they do not attack humans.
Wow, what a high tension ride.
Thanks for sharing your adventures
Nice sail and thank you for the okra information. Fyn Alee
Someone care to explain your video headline….. orcas take rudder…….
Hi, fellow Canuck and Great Lake sailor. What about motor sailing? Wouldn't the prop running maybe help keep the Orcas away?
I'd get rid of that stupid spin sock. Those are more hassle than they are worth. Maybe try a symmetrical spinnaker with a pole some day. Much easier and more stable to go dead down wind with. We carry 3 kites. 1 light asymmetrical, 1 light symmetrical, and one 1oz symmetrical for heavier winds. Some use a 1.5 oz reacher in 20+knt winds, but are heavy and hard to handle with just 2 people IMO.
Re. Your coffee (power) issue. I have been cold brewing for over 30 years, and never prefer hot brewed if I can avoid it. Cold brew is much less acidic and tastes great. There are several inexpensive CB systems. (Toddy ~$35 US.)
Drama
Not sure I should have watched this episode today. Tomorrow we will go thru the Straits ourselves heading to Gib to reset our Schengen clock. Today we didn’t see any whale activity. Doesn’t mean they weren’t there. 😅😊Looks like your winds will continue nicely this week.
so sad that people are taking sand from the beach as "memory" … what if everyone is doing it ? 🤨
RE: Orcas and sailboat rudders Is it possible that Orcas are going after voltage leaks out propeller shafts? The props sit right in front of the rudders. This could be easily verified by checking the zinks of boats that have been attaked.
Best to carry depth charges
Sonic boom blasters
Fk orcas that target any vessel
another pathetic sailing channel , like most of them,, cheers
A little worried, haven't seen a vid in a while so glad your both safe. Great job
It would be nice to see a dog
Well that was quick. Looking forward to seeing you fly that new sail ‼️ See you next time. ✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
I hope u guys go to the phillipines someday youl have lotsa fun there
I am happy you made it but sorry for those who got there yacht broken , and i have a question for the internet : is a steel yacht better at survive an orca attack ??
Groovy episode.
0:22: ⛵ The video shows last minute boat preparations before a 4-day offshore passage.
4:49: ⛵ Sailors are facing challenges with orca attacks as they plan their Atlantic crossing.
9:17: 😬 The crew successfully notified a boat about a lost rudder and navigated through a stressful situation in the Strait of Gibraltar.
13:24: 🌬️ The speaker is considering the wind conditions and potential destinations for their journey.
18:27: ⛵ The video demonstrates how to deploy and use a spinnaker sail while sailing downwind.

Say hi to alex in cape verde
That Burton Board sweat shirt is a little out of it normal surrounds.. Aye? LOL
I support the Orcas
Another great vid indeed. Perhaps you could reach out to Bluetti or Anker and "try" one of their power storage units. Your solar setup could keep the unit charged. This would help your boat without having to fire up the generator. I would get one that had enough power to run the water maker. Just a suggestion guys. I am always impressed with how clean you keep the boat. Thanks for all you do. Very entertaining as always. Fair winds and safe travels.
Hi guys To help you solve your Starlink problem go to the Sailing AWEN "Repairs in Canary Islands" episode where at 14:48 Keith from Zatara helps with making the Starlink dish work at sea. I hope your sail across the Atlantic is a safe one.
Well we were hit by an Orca mid Aug. Just of the coast of Sines. (Pt) – it took 2 tows – 2 months and 40k€ to get the boat’s rudder replaced and up and runing
😉 loved the spinnaker piece. We did the exact same thing the first time we tried it – and left it alone for months after. But… learned and now its a must. Nice episode!
