Auto Pilot question. I noticed that when you were auto pilot that it was working hard. Have you reduced the sensitivity of the auto pilot? Often the factory setting it too high. In the case of my Helia 44 and a few others I've seen that was the case. The auto pilots were working way to hard. It won't change the fact that your auto pilot is undersized but it may help.

Hi guys, If I can offer some tips too…(You've probably worked this one out, but anyway) If you see a the rain squall coming, race out and sappy foam up the booby poo and then let the rain wash it away. With the issue of exercise, if you're only going slow, say three, maybe four knots at the absolute most, tie a rope around your waist and swim up between the hulls and then swim a couple of kilometres in between the hulls and then you can just drop back and climb in the sugar scoop when you're finished. Obviously, you'll want to have a spotter sitting on one of the Princess seats, and I would also wear your mask and snorkel and use those while you swim, because you never know the dolphins may come in, and if you haven't got them on, you'll miss it. For the boom and the preventer, I would suggest getting some 2 inch seatbelt tape (or climbing webbing) and making a sling that goes onto the boom that can be easily tied and shackled around the boom end and then tie your preventers do that. That way it takes a lot longer for the boom to wear through the 2 inch tape rather than a rope. I've seen other sailors put two or even three boom preventers on rather than just a single rope (as ropes break) and this type sling around the boom would make that much easier to do. With the steering. I would pick a course (perhaps -1º off) which you're just happy with set the sail accordingly for that course, and then lock off the steering wheels to the helm with some short hand lines or Ocky straps (which are rubber elasticated straps) in a similar 'V' fashion to how your boom is located by twin sheets from either side of the boat. This will stop the steering wheel from sloping backwards and forwards, one way or another. It wouldn't be as fast or as 'true' a course as hand steering but, if you're tired or at night and want to be able to let others sleep and still move about yourself, it can come in handy as a self steering mechanism. Clearly, you would still need to be on watch and keep an eye on it.

Hi Kristen, really enjoyed the video. Pretty amazing landing for the drone too. We've crossed the GoM a few times, and sailed thru the Bahamas as far south as the Raggeds, but no ocean crossings. I may now consider carrying a spare autopilot for our Seawind 1160. AP makes life so much easier. I hope you find the issue with yours. And hope Fabio heals.
After binging most of your episodes I had to get used to wait (and wait) for the next one! But it's worth the waiting! Btw I have a request/suggestion…. I also have a dream to sail the Pacific…. with a certain goal…. visiting on Hiva Oa the rest-place of Jaques Brel – he was internationally famous (not in US I guess) as a singer songwriter – he wrote mainly (heavy emotionally) French songs, and since he was born in Brussels he considered himself as a French-speaking Flemish guy… Maybe his songs and lyrics might be a good exercise to practice French 😉 – for us he was a singing poet and makes part of the cultural heritage of our little country (Belgium). So yes, we have more than the best beer in the world, the best chocolates, our famous fries (right: it's Belgian fries, not French lol) and Tomorrowland. So about my request: if you plan to visit Hiva Oa you can visit Calvary Cemetery, and make a picture of his grave – and if you think, well, why would we do that? I tried to help you out with recommending Raymarine ACU400 with Type 2 Linear Drive and you would be enjoying your trip with an autopilot that performs even in stormy seas. But I guess Christopher Columbus didn’t have autopilot either. 😢
