  1. *Dear viewers, please note that in-boom furling is NOT standard on any of the Rapido models. In the case of this boat, it was a request from the owner & recommended against by Rapido… to the point where the owner sub-contracted out the rig in its entirety to a third party.

  2. We actually have a monkey that we rescued as a baby after another troop killed her mother. Troops fight over territory and food, and it's usually the males that are the most aggressive. Ours is a female and we've become her troop and she's very protective of our family, almost like a guard dog. She won't bite, but she slaps and scratches and jumps at strangers if they enter our property and makes a lot of noise to alert us to their presence. We tried to give her to the Gov't rescue, but they didn't have space and wanted to euthanize her, and we didn't want to see that happen. She gets on great with our other animals and never leaves our property. The only thing she's scared of are other monkeys. They fight for survival in the wild and competition is fierce, so when you're near wild ones you've got to be careful. They're really strong too. She's a crab eating Macaque and even though she's small it takes two of us to hold her down for the vet to give her shots. Once you understand them, you'll be OK around them. They have certain behaviors to look out for, so you need to know how to react to avoid issues.

  3. I have sailed many many cruises and passages with in boom furling. Unfortunately the failure here was caused by you not knowing what you were doing. The boom to mast angle has to to be exact and is fixed by a hard kicker or vang. The topping lift is a back up safety feature and should never be manipulated. No sea trial by rigger is criminal.
Wish you guys knew more about sailing Really hope you don’t kill yourselfs

  4. So… Why would anyone want in-boom furling then? Why did the owner go against Rapido's recommendations? Non-sailor inquiring minds want to know…

  5. Am wondering why on a new boat why you wouldn't try and raise the sails whilst firmly attached to the dock? Is that too dangerous? At least that way obvious problems might be avoided before you're out at sea.

  6. All I can say is this is a stitch up on in boom furling. We have this on our 57 foot yacht and haver never had an issue. We have sail from Australia to New Caledonia them to NZ several times. I cannot speak more highly of it. However lack of understanding and poor seamanship can cause issues with any system. That’s what I witnessed in this video. Disappointing really.

  7. Did Elena make a booboo by refering to the first and original The Vagabond as The Vagabond the second????????????……… Yes she did!!!!!!!

  8. I like the idea of in-boom furling vs in-mast furling. But really prefer just traditional rigging for main sail. My friend has an in-mast furling main that we have only been able to use 1 time. It is all jammed up and we cant get it out of the mast at all. Hate it!

  9. Please tell me you added the clip of the rock from the movie the rundown “get out of here monkey” to next weeks episode!!!!! Love what you are doing

  10. I looked it up, its pronounced as "muhkaak" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDocWRj45PE) and yeah they are very unpredictable. Everybody always goes like "Ooooh look such sweet monkeys" and then discovers they are cheeky thieving and actually dangerous buggers, they grab and they bite! We have them in Europe on Gibraltar Rock (introduced) with similar problems. These monkeys after all are close relatives if ours. You need to be extra careful with kids around them too!

  11. yep those monkeys can be vicious…watched a french girl in Bali in the 90’s get a very deep bite, not nice 😏

  12. wow thought you'd be aware that monkeys are dangerous, hope you're alright. One of the great spots to sail to is in front of Phuket. with a great anchorage (with beach restaurants: its called Koh Yao Yai. good holding anchorage

  13. We have in boom furling that came with our PDQ. There are definitely some good brands and bad brands (some bring the sail right up to the track on the mast significantly reducing the chance of jamming). It took a little practice but setting the topping lift to the correct height was really important. Also, furling with the right amount of tension on the main halyard helps a ton. Once we practiced a bit, we have been able to reef the main downwind in less than ideal condition though not recommend if you can avoid it because it wears on things (beam reach at a minimum is ideal) and have unlimited reef points. It's nice and tidy once we're done sailing and secure for any blows. So I like a lot about it. But, I'm not sure I'd buy it for a boat that didn't have one due to cost/benefit analysis as there are also advantages to the traditional stack pack.

  14. It's so annoying, as most monkeys in the world were fine, & kept a distance from humans, until people started feeding them, and now they get a bad rap, because they are aggressive and become thieves …. DO NOT FEED WILDLIFE, please.

  15. The boys might get PTSD for life. They might forget it, but their subconscious mind won't. Speaking of child endangerment.

  16. In this video you appear to be absolute beginners, you created the problem yourself through completely wrong handling. For those who can handle in-boom furling, it is a superior system, especially with a small crew. Dont trash talk system you dont understand…

  17. I love that you film what it's like to be on a trimaran. That you show how many sleeping places there are and what the kitchen looks like. The monkeys are not always kind. I remember when I got monkeys in my son's pram and it was written everywhere that you must not touch the monkeys because they will bite. I did a Riley, it was about my child and then you become a lioness.

  18. In prior episodes they were leaving 2 kids with one nanny on an uninhibited stretch of tiny land, going diving. #1what a nanny with 2 kids would be doing if one or both parents experienced some sort of unpredictable events while diving? What about people with bad intention passing by and seeing one women with 2 kids? What about some sort of, if not monkeys, but other dangers of tropics? What about medical emergency that could come from nowhere? Was it wise to leave kids and a nanny alone? Lastly, always put on protective beach shoes. The pristine looking sand in tropic is an illusion of safety- from parasites, amoebas, jellyfish and who knows what else. A little scratch on one's foot could lead to sepsis. The Beauty of Tropics could become a nightmare in no time.

  19. Damn right you're sorry for that cliffhanger. I'll be back next week regardless of your unethical cliff hanger…. so mean!

  20. I think these trimarans are very fast and very safe with the many watertight compartments and stability, but I am not sure how comfortable they are. Also, i am not sure about the raised cockpit. How many seconds does it take to get up there from the nav station if something unexpected happens?

  21. Macaques, pronounced "Makaks" can be quite aggressive, I have seen them in Malaysia and Gibraltar and was warned that they can be quite nasty, Google doesn't seem to really talk much about their behaviour, but I hope everyone is ok!
